What Is a Coop?

Birthdays mean a special snack and a chance to celebrate with friends!
PVCNS is administered by an Executive Board, elected by the parents who make up the school's membership. The Board is assisted by Director Lisa Tracy. All members participate in the school’s administration by attending general meetings and serving on a committee.

To provide the best experience for our children, we try to maintain a low child/adult ratio in our classrooms. On average, parents can expect to work in the classroom about twice a month. However, depending on the makeup and size of the class, this can vary from less than once per month, to up to three times a month.

Parents are asked to bring either a snack or beverage for the class on those days they are in the classroom. Schedules are received in advance to allow parents time to plan.

Since committees help run the school, each family is required to serve on a committee.
The committees are:
- Class Parents, who make up class schedules and telephone other parents in case of school closures.
- Fundraising, which organizes fundraising programs.
- Hospitality, which organizes parties, general meetings, and special functions.
- Buildings and Grounds, which makes sure classrooms and indoor and outdoor play areas are maintained and improved.
- Membership, which is responsible for increasing the membership of the school, and for public relations activities.

The school is cleaned daily by a janitorial service. In the interest of good hygiene and disease prevention, however, one parent from each family is required to participate in one organized clean-up activity per school year, to clean all the toys and equipment in the classrooms. These clean-ups are held on Saturday mornings and Monday nights throughout the year, and last for approximately three hours.
