The PASCACK VALLEY COOPERATIVE NURSERY SCHOOL (PVCNS) was formed in 1974 by parents who wanted to have a direct impact on their child's pre-school education, and to provide an enriching pre-school program for both children and parents. This non-profit organization is dedicated to assisting the child in making a successful transition from the family unit to the outside community.

The emergence of trust, independence, creativity, and social awareness is encouraged. Employing only state-certified pre-school teachers, PVCNS is state-licensed and meets all standards in staff, facilities, and curriculum. Each class is staffed by a certified teacher and parent aides, providing a low adult/child ratio. Class size is strictly limited.

PVCNS occupies a wing in the First Congregational Church of Park Ridge. There is no religious affiliation. Indoor and outdoor play areas are maintained on-premises.

"Learning Through Play" is the school's guiding principle. PVCNS believes in stimulating children creatively, intellectually, physically, and socially, with a balance of free play, group activities, and outdoor play. Our goal is to teach a love of learning and a positive self-image.

This is accomplished by helping to develop the muscle coordination needed to read and write, the thought processes needed to think logically, and the social skills needed to enjoy being with others. We believe in allowing children to grow at their own rate, gaining independence and building the self-esteem that will help them succeed.
